Memories of Dorothy "Dot" Schuda
From Laurie Kramer:
I had the pleasure of spending time with Dot when she came to the beaglefests that I hosted at my home. She'd arrive with Linda in the van, help got out the beagles, set up the table, then she would help me in the kitchen. Little did I know that she was allergic
to eggs when she helped me prepare the devilled egg dish! We would chat about
this and that, and I have to say that this was always the highlight of the day for me.
There was something about Dot that made you feel so comfortable. After the beaglefest
she would help to clean up and I always sent her home with leftovers for Bob. Dot was such a joy to be around. I'll miss her terribly at the beaglefests but I'll know that her spirit will be there, watching the beagles and helping with the devilled eggs. Dot, you have a special place in heaven. With love from Laurie.
From MaryAnn Michaels:
Dot will truly be missed by us humans and animals, she touched so, many of our lives, and feel comfort knowing she is at our rainbow bridge carrying on and is now needed there too.
My prayers are with you Bob and your children, she was truly a fine lady, and the lives she touched will always remain in our hearts.
Linda, thanks for sharing your kind words of such a assume lady, that this earth was truly blessed having.
From Vivian Andrews:
I must say that this memorail website is so beautiful and fitting for a women whom I regretably only knew briefly. Her kind and gentle impression has left pleasant memories of Dot. I met Dot several years ago when I adopted my first beagle from SOS Beagle Rescue. From time to time Dot would accompany Linda on adoptions and that was the first time I met her. After that, my fiancee and I would meet up with Dot again at the annual Beaglefests. Being somewhat overwelmed by all the beagle owners and beagles, Dot made a point of coming up to us to welcome us to our first Beaglefest. She made both of us feel welcomed and part of the family. Bob, you were blessed with a women who had a huge heart and a deep soul and I am sure she must have been an exceptional mother as well. While people like Dot leave us too soon, the love they leave will last for eternity. Linda, there is no greater gift than the devotion and love of a friend. I know you will never forget Dot nor should you ever! But, know there are others who care for you not because you are a beagle rescuer but because you too are a kind and loving individual and I am proud to call you my friend.
This website is a beautiful tribute to a genuinely nice person. Thank you for creating it and allowing us to share our thoughts on a sensational person named Dot. God Bless you Dot...you will always be missed....take care of all our pups at Rainbow Bridge and we will meet you again!!!
Love,
Vivian A.
From Barbara Carroll:
Sometimes when Linda was up visiting from Tennessee, I would meet her and Dot at the food court at the outlet mall near Great Adventure. We would chat about beagles and our families -- and eat something fattening that we shouldn't have. I knew Dot mainly from those occasions and from a couple of beaglefests where our mother-daughter pair, Cristall and Heather, would touch noses. I think we both knew how honored we were that Linda let us care for these special little girls.
Dot always struck me as kind and fun and (as Linda could tell you) a very good person to have as a best friend. When I think about those times sitting across from the two of them at the food court, Linda and Dot really did seem like sisters -- the kind of sisters who support one another with unconditional love and friendship.
Dot, I have had a quiet word with my old beagle/basset cross, Bowser, who went across the Bridge many years ago, and I am sure she will keep you company until the rest of us get there. She will be a lucky girl!
From Maureen Capra:
My prayers are with Dot and her family. I only met Dot once at a Beaglefest but know that she was deeply loved by her friends and all the beagles. She was met at the Rainbow Bridge with many beagles that she has helped over the years. Know that she is in good hands. Linda, that is a beautiful tribute to your friend, Dot. Thank you for sharing it with all of us.

From John Zimmer:
Dot was always fun to be around. You could tell she really loved Beagles no matter what size, color or shape they might be. Dot always found time to help Linda and our SOS group and was always a pleasure to hang out with; she will be sorely missed by all.

From Yvonne Ristich:
I first met Dot at our second beaglefest at Thompson Park in Linwood. I took to her immediately; she was so kind and friendly. I always enjoyed our chats at every beaglefest after that first meeting. She was always there to help Linda and always brought her beautiful beagle, Cristall, with her. I'll miss her.
From Linda Wood:
Hello,
I never met Dot, but somehow through Susan O'Brien, I felt like I knew her a little. From what I heard, I wish I had known her a lot. I have been told that Dot had a heart of gold and never knew a stranger...her picture showed that. She has the warmest face I've ever seen. God speed Dot, and fly with the angels. Your rescue work will never be forgotten, especially with all the beagles. I hope your reunion at the Bridge with the onese that passed was a party of all parties! My sympathies are with the family and many of Dot's closest friends, to include Linda and Susan.
Much love,
Linda Wood
From Houston Beagle/Hound Rescue:
Our deepest condolences on your loss.
From Joann Diehl:
Jeff & I will always remember Dot as being such a friendly, warm
person. At all the Beaglefests we attended and a gathering at
Linda & Garth's she was always so kind and lovable to our crew.
I still have a picture of Linda holding our Bruce the day we
adopted him with Dot smiling in the background. It's one I will
always treasure.
Please accept our deepest sympathy,
Joann & Jeff Diehl
From Cindy Troncone:
My very sincere condolences to you, Bob, and your family. And to Linda, Dot's very close friend a.k.a. sister. I had only actually been in Dot's company a handful of times, but we shared many happy hours on the phone talking about how much we loved animals and how difficult it was to understand those who just don't care about them at all. Dot and I had one thing very much in common. We both love the senior dogs (and cats). The one's no one wants. The one's people pass up for puppies. We'd always agree on how adorable and sweet puppies are and how hard they are to resist, but that our hearts just couldn't resist the older dogs, the ones who needed love and tender care the most. Dot had such a big heart. For animals, and for people. I will always hold dear our talks and I will never forget the night she called me to see how my Daphne was doing (and how I was holding up) when Daphne was very sick. Dot consoled me and cried with me, when no one else did. I loved Dot Schuda. I consider myself honored and privileged to have gotten to know her for a short time here on earth. How lucky are those at the bridge to have her with them to hold them close and feel her love.
From Viviane Pescov:
A well-known Author on Dogs, by the name of Roger Caras, wrote: " Generally, or at least very often, people with a deep interest in animals are the best people around." This is so true of Dot: She was the Best.
In the Fall of 2002 and at the Kramer's Beaglefest: Dot was looking forward to meet me. I had the great pleasure of meeting her and we had a very interesting conversation on Dogs and other subjects. I could tell, right away, that she had the kindest heart towards Animals & Humans. At the time: Dot introduced to me the 2 available Beagles for adoption as if they were rare gems and they were an excellent choice. Unfortunately:I had already a beautiful Sos Beagle by the name of Bertha and couldn't adopt another dog.I'd like to think that today Bertha, who was an Angel,is licking Dot as she did at the Beaglefest when the two met joyfully.
Irv and I remember a loving, tall & graceful, white-haired woman who moved among the Beaglefest's participants and their hounds like an Angel hoping that Man's Best Friends would get a Good Home.
Our Sincere Condoleances to Bob, Robert, David & Dorothy

From Linda Van Blarcum:
Please accept our deepest sympathy. As I sit next to our wonderful beagle, Misty, be assured Dot's good work continues. What a special person to have brought such joy to so many.
From Mary Carolyn Stewart:
I'm a new visitor to this page because of two adorable male Beagles who showed up on my doorstep this past Sunday. In my efforts to find a rescue organization to help with their placement, I came here. I do not believe in coincidences...December 10, 2002, I lost my mom to ovarian cancer as you have lost your beloved Dot. It's not a disease that plays fair...the signs of its presence are subtle so that even the doctors ignore it until it's advanced. My heart goes out to each and every one of you...my prayers are with you. Know that even through her loss, she is touching lives and hearts; and her mission to save these precious dogs continues.
May God bless you and help you heal and fill your heart with happy memories.
Sincerely,
Mary Carolyn Stewart

From Deborah Gingrich:
Dear Bob, Robert, David & Dorothy,
Dot will be sorely missed around the SOS campfire. She was always very nice to me when I was adopting Calla (Kayla pronouned). For your family to put up with animals all over, just expresses to me all of you are very special people too. There will be a void from her fellow beagler. Calla is sending all of you a great big aaaarrrruuu fot Dot right now and I am sending a Large Hug to all of you too.

From Eileen Land:
Dear Shuda family and Linda,
Keith and I met Dot at a rescue event several years ago. Our experience was like so many others. Dot was warm, friendly and made us feel that we had known her for years. As the years have passed, I've had the pleasure of seeing her several more times and once spent an afternoon with her and Linda. After each time, I left feeling truly awed by two things. The "generosity of heart" that Dot possessed for every living thing and the bond of love that existed between Dot and Linda.
As you grieve for the loss of your loving wife, mother and "sister", please know that the world will grieve too. We can ill afford losing someone who knew how to love unconditionally.
Dot will be in my heart and memories as I move on in my life. Her loving spirit will remind me to be the best person possible. Someone who, like Dot, lived - loved and left a legacy.
From Barb Giano:
I had the honor to meet Dot at Linda's house when she was beagle sitting. She was such a nice lady and since then I have heard so many nice things about her. This is truly a loss to the rescue world, but I'm sure all the little doggy's are happy to meet Dot at the bridge. God Bless Dot's Family. Barb Giano, Burlington County Animal Alliance
From Bob Schuda:
Thank you all for your kind tributes to my mother. Especially, thank you, Linda, for setting up this page for her and for the care you provided her before her passing.
I first came across the Rainbow Bridge story earlier this summer as my wife and I mourned the loss of our Labarador Retriever. When we laid my mother to rest, I read the story to my family, and described the mob scene that must have greeted her.
My mother achieved much in her short life through her work with organizations like yours. I have always been thankful that she was a stay-at-home mom when we grew up, and that the house was not empty when we came home from school. Each morning when I left for school she would tell me to "be good." Every day. I found those two words inspiring, and it's how I intend to send my son off to school when the time comes.
My mother also traveled all over the country - from New England, to Florida and the Bahamas, to Bermuda, to Colorado, to Tennessee. When I lived in Miami, Florida she would visit me every year. In Miami, peacocks are wild and you see quite a few of them. She would always run after them and shepherd them out of parking lots and out of the street. And she came out to California to see my wifa and me get married above Lake Tahoe at 9,000 feet, and later to see her new grandson, Connor, in Los Angeles. She also made friends all over the country, through her work with you.
My mother lived her life doing what she most wanted to do - help animals. In this, she continued the work of Saint Francis of Assisi. In fact, my mother was born on the Feast of All Saints. When my mother was a little girl, my great-aunt Margaret would tell her that all of the saints in heaven celebrated her birthday. I believe the saints celebrate now, because she has joined them. And I believe our separation from her now is only temporary and look forward to seeing her again in Heaven, because I believe what my Lord promised to Martha and Mary when they mourned the death of Lazarus: "Whoever lives and believes in me shall never die."
God bless you and your work.
From Susan:
Dot you are at the Bridge now with my babies and that gives me great peace knowing they have a special friend but your passing was way
to soon for me. Although we only knew each other for a few short years
your faith and love made a GREAT impression on me. I will always be thankful / greatful for haveing known you. You had the gift to bring out a smile in peoples souls, and you shared laughter with the world.
Take care of all those babies you now have they must of needed you more then US but I do find that IMPOSABLE! OH and thank you for leaveing me that wish list - you know I will fill it.
From Julie Dvorak:
Yesterday, October 10th 2004 was the Fall SOS BeagleFest. It was a beautiful, warm, sunny day and the Kramers' yard was filled with beagles and beagle-loving people. Little Krystal was there, cute as ever. Dot's spirit and love were acknowledged and honored by Linda and the whole group. Although she is missed greatly, her presence at the BeagleFest was strongly felt. It was my priviledge to have known Dot, for a short time on this earth.
From Benny Archuleta:
My condolances to you all on the loss of Dot. Those of us in rescue hope only that we can make a difference to the animals we help. We do not try to achieve recognition for what we do, but rather hope that what we do will bring recognition to the larger problem of homeless pets.
It sounds very much like Dot was that sort of person. I'm honored that you've chosen to remember her with my Rainbow Bridge story of when a rescuer arrives. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of her story, though I never met her.
From Jessica:
From what I read about Mrs. Dot, she was a wonderful woman who made a tremendous difference in her life. From the photos I can see her bright personality. My heart goes out to her family.
From Nathan & Shelee Thompson:
I am sorry for your loss. May God give you the comfort needed in this time of sorrow. Our prayers are with you.
From Bobbi Leitzell:
Dear Bob, and children,
I did not know Dot but from what I have just read about her and what she has done for the animals and especially "Our" Beloved Beagles I wanted you all to know how saddened I am about your loss. I am so sure that she walked over Rainbow Bridge with many many dogs by her side.
Much Love and kindness,
